My love in photography is wildlife, but when in other countries, I take advantage of the people within that country. I have been amazed by the openness and generosity of people that I have encounter. It is a very humbling experience to witness how one lives in Kenya, or Cambodia, or Kaziranga. For the most part, people love to share their story, their history, their culture and it is truly a blessing to be the recipient of all of that. Every time we went to Africa, we also spent time with the Masai people in the area we were in. The beauty of these people with there high cheek bones, incredibly white teeth and tall slender bodies intrigues me. Many live in mud huts made from mud and cow dung - with no electricity and many have no good running water. They continue to practice their cultural upbringing and rites of passage for both the women and the men.
Traveling through the streets of India affords numerous opportunities to witness and capture the daily life of Indian people. Some of their photographs were taken in a tea field and a rice field in Kaziranga. As you will see the young children are a mainstay in the working family and must be part of the family income. The same is true in many Cambodian and Tibetan families. Regardless of the country, I was constantly reminded how little most of these people had in their live - things that the average American takes so for granted. But yet, I witnessed joy and happiness and the constant willingness to share what little they had. Oh what we could learn.
